Ride Like Silver On A Desolation Moonlight

dresdencodak:

Inspired by Anita Sarkeesian’s Video Game Tropes vs Women, I wanted to pitch a Zelda game where Zelda herself was the hero, rescuing a Prince Link.

Clockwork Empire is set 2,000 years after Twilight Princess, and is not a reboot, but simply another iteration in the Zelda franchise. It just so happens that in this case, Zelda is the protagonist. I’m a very big Zelda fan, and worked hard to draw from key elements in the continuity and mythos.

This concept work is meant to show that Zelda as a game protagonist can be both compelling and true to the franchise, while bringing new and dynamic game elements that go farther than being a simple gender swap.

Hope you like it!

I uhhh…well, I don’t cry much anymore. Frankly, the first time I had in about two years was the night of my birthday this year, just a few days ago. Well, it was technically after my birthday. The morning of April 6th, around 1am. It’s been continuing since then.

Regardless, I don’t think I’ve ever cried harder in my life than when I was listening to this song yesterday. It just made me so proud of being a punk, being who I am, and loving this life I live.

VIVA LA PUNK, ONE LIFE, ANARCHY!

Hey There!

New White Flag Agenda song. Need to write the lyrics somewhere. Subject to EXTREME change, but I do like the way this one is coming out. Not sure how I feel about the Gaslight and Hot Water references, but right now, I like them. Also, ignore the poor chord notation at the end. I’m just trying to keep them down somewhere.

I’m holding on to all the things that hold me down

Cause one day I will reclaim myself from them

Feels like the weight of my heart

Is weighing down more than the earth

That’s spinning around just like my head

From my day-to-day inactivity

There’s no changing what’s been done

There’s only holding-holding on

To the things that we don’t regret

Because regretting only takes you down

Screaming “hey there”

Ups become the Appalachians

And all the downs are lonely cliffs

And your feet dangle on over the edge

Before the songs help pull you back

But your sanity hangs on a string

Just be glad that it wasn’t you

It wouldn’t stop anything from getting worse

It’s giving up on it getting better

There’s no changing what’s been done

There’s only holding-holding on

To the things that we don’t regret

Because regretting only takes you down

There’s no changing what’s been done

There’s only holding-holding on

To the things that we don’t regret

Because regretting only takes you down

Screaming “hey there”

I saw taillights last night

But she wouldn’t dare to be my wife

Yet these trusty chords brought me to life

Me to life

Screaming “hey there”

Well hey there.

Subject to lots of change. I just wrote this one on the spot. I’m so surprised I even wrote it. I’m actually quite happy with it. Taken me out of a slump.

The Short List Of Things I DO Hate

I really don’t hate many things. There’s a handful of things I’m not necessarily happy with, but overall, I don’t hate much. This list may come off as extremely hypocritical. Everything is a contradiction though, so whatever. Here’s what I do hate, though -

  • Greed and greedy people
  • War and the army
  • Crime that hurts people physically
  • Crime that hurts people mentally
  • Crime that hurts people financially when they need the finances (for instance, piracy - that’s totally fine in my book if you’re pirating music from major labels, pirating high grossing movies, or pirating games you wanna try before to see if you like it before you buy it [I’ve made the mistake of buying games without trying them and not getting my $60 back and that’s why I miss BlockBuster])
  • Scene bands and fans. This includes any type of “_____core” music whether it’s deathcore, metalcore, it’s all the fucking same shit. I especially hate their un-unified fans and how hostile and unaccepting they are. This also includes pop-punk fucking trash, cause they generally are pretty much the same people.
  • Hostile people
  • Religion, but only when it takes over your life to the point where you hurt yourself, others, or lose your free-will
  • People who can’t accept others for their choices. This contradicts my statement above about scene shit, but the thing is, I would accept them if they were more accepting, but the fact of the matter is, they’re just not kind or accepting people, so fuck them. When they learn how to not be assholes, then I’ll have no problems with them

And that’s it. I really don’t hate many things.

Monday Blues

Another WFA song. This one isn’t from the EP, this is actually from the full-length that we’re working on that probably won’t be out for another year and half or so. I’ve just been feeling very strongly about what this song is about, so I need to put it somewhere.

She woke up in a deep sleep

I don’t know what to say

She tells me about it every day

I hear my beating heart skip by

The thought occurs but I don’t wonder why

And I cannot hear her when she cries

And we’ll sing the blues

For every time spent down and wandering around

Cast a shadow on my doubt

So that I will never see

All these past things that have been haunting me

But I express no shame for thee

It moves along at 4/4 pace

If we wake up can you assure me we’ll still be safe

A working mind will not comply

Heart full of novocaine you can’t cry

I woke up, no deep sleep

I didn’t dream last night again

I tell her about how it has been

Qualify for me but I’ll never see

How human minds just change so easily

And now we’re stuck in the Monday blues

It moves along at 4/4 pace

When I wake up can you please tell me that you’re safe

My working mind will not comply

Heart full of novocaine I can’t cry

And now we’re stuck in the Monday blues

It’s only the Monday blues

Happens every day

Stuck in the Monday blues

It moves along at 4/4 pace

When we wake up we’ll tell each other we’re still safe

Working minds, they will comply

Hearts full of joy will not cry

Reject

Here’s another. I wrote this one a few years back about not abiding by the rules and boundaries that society sets us up in. I didn’t want to listen. I still don’t want to listen. I will reject boundaries set by society. I will reject the things you tell me what to do. I will reject conforming to a broken system. I will fight back. I don’t give a fuck about what you tell me to do; when you respect me, that’s when I’ll respect you.

Scapegoats to hide the pain away

‘Cause you’ve got no words left to say

Scared shitless life gone long astray

Put cease into your senseless frays

And you know that I won’t listen

Every step will take me further away

I really wonder what it takes

And if, I’ll just reject

So as you lay there under your wraps

You’re still lacking the conscience to relax

For reasons pondered about today

And we will until we decay

You know that I won’t listen

Every step will take me further away

I really wonder what it takes

And if, I’ll just reject

I won’t listen.

I won’t listen.

I won’t listen.

I won’t listen!!

Bitter Endings

Just figured I’d start to post some lyrics for the new WFA record. This one’s called “Faux Pas (Bitter Endings)” and I started writing this in the middle of August of 2012 and finished the majority of it that autumn. It came into full circle by December, however.

When I get home I don’t want to say another word

Any more the days - they just won’t even pass

I wait for some advisory

Down by a language where I found victory

With passing days and setting suns

What the hell had just begun?

Another cycle, another boring fucking repeat

So who’s the monster?

Am I living in the backseat

I’m a quiet type but an angry man

Another way I’ll take my stand

And I wouldn’t want it any other way, but still…

Is it wrong to say I’ll miss you?

Is it weird the way we’ve came to?

I’d never meant to hurt you, I was just living inside my dreams

Is it wrong to say we we’re miscreants?

We hate the lawful ignorance

Is it wrong to say that we still laugh at the knives in all their backs?

I’ll wait as long as a bitter ending

I’ll wait for these bitter endings

Here until these bitter endings

Waiting ‘til these bitter endings

Which are wrong cause I’ll be bitter all along

Rocky said “if nothing good’s free

oh my god, you sure won’t be”

So where did all my righteous anger turn me wrong?

I left you alone like you said I should have done

But I guess that I was bitter and I guess that I was wrong…

To say “I miss you”

Is it weird the way it came to?

I never meant to hurt you I was just living inside of a dream

Is it wrong to say we were miscreants?

We hated lawful ignorance

Is it wrong to say that we now laugh with their knives in our backs

I’ll wait as long as the bitter endings

I’ll wait for these bitter endings

Here until these bitter endings

I’ll wait for these bitter endings

Wrong cause I’ve been bitter…(no)

Lied cause I’ve been bitter…(no)

Wrong cause I’ve been bitter all along

My Top 12 Records If 2012

My Top 12 Records Of 2012

So as I sit here waiting for my cheese biscuits to come out of the oven, I’m listening to Anti-Flags golden “The General Strike” from last year and realized that no punk sites put it on their best of they year. I figured I’d make my own best of 2012 list.

12. Cheap Girls’ “Giant Orange” - This one was a sentimental, energetic record that means a bit to me now. I had heard of Cheap Girls prior to listening to Giant Orange, but I hadn’t liked Ian’s voice at first. This changed with Giant Orange. I love these guys now.

11. Deadmau5’ “> album title goes here <” - I like electronic music. Doesn’t matter if he’s not punk. Neither were the Ramones (that was a joke). Fight me.

10. Gallows’ eponymous release - I didn’t like Wade at first. I still really don’t, but “Vapid Adolescent Blues” and “Outsider Art” have made me more lenient.

9. Title Fight’s “Floral Green” - I still don’t know if I love the guys or not yet and whether their emo, hardcore, or whatever the fuck kids are genre-ing music anymore. Songs like “Leaf” and “Head In The Ceiling Fan” are still fucking great.

8. How To Destroy Angels’ “An_omen EP” - Nine Inch Nails being my fourth favorite band ever, I will fucking eat up anything Trent Reznor puts out. And having Atticus, Mariqueen, and Rob along doesn’t hurt.

7. The Offspring’s “Days Go By” - I know you heard dat bass bumpin’ in my trunk. Fight me.

6. Lindsey Stirling’s eponymous release - She’s not “punk” or even close to it, either. HOWEVER, her combination of classical violin playing, electronic dance music and dubstep, as well as her use of interpretive dance in music videos and live shows makes her something unique and revolutionary. Songs like “Electric Daisy Violin”, “Elements”, and “Shadows” really blow my mind paired with the videos. Don’t even get me started on her big single from last year, “Crystallize”. Phenomenal.

5. Hot Water Music’s “Exister” - I myself didn’t get into these guys until Exister hit shelves, but seeing them at Bamboozle last year along with The Souls and Gaslight was an experience like no other. Prior to Exister’s release, however, I did like the songs Wayfarer because of the spilt they did with The ‘Souls [don’t worry, I’ll get to them ;)], Trusty Chords because of Gaslight’s [them too] cover, and I just new Remedy because I did. They’re phenomenal. Mainline opens the record with a big fucking kick to your balls and you’re going to love every second of that throbbing pain in your jizz factory. That jizz factory is going to erupt out of your PVC pipe (this means you’re going to ejaculate from your penis) when you hear “Drag My Body”.

4. Anti-Flag’s “The General Strike” - I fucking love Anti-Flag. They changed my views on the world. Also, they’re genuinely some of the coolest and nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. I noticed this record, one of my favorites last year, hadn’t been on any punk top lists from last year. That’s fucking weird. I think maybe it’s because of its leak back in December of 2011 and it’s early official release in 2012, but it’s still one of the best records of the year. “1915” especially spoke to me with its usage of Joe Hill’s last written words as lyrics.

3. The Bouncing Souls’ “Comet” - I can’t wait to see what it’s like. The song the record is named for really got me. Same thing with Ship In A Bottle. I saw these guys live four times last year and I loved every fucking minute of it. I’d see them again in a heartbeat. The first time on my own at Bamboozle, the next with my incredibly fucking drunk brother (who had 12 shots of vodka or something in 20 minutes before I drove his ass to The Pony for the first of the three HFTH6 shows I’d be going to that year) to which he also had a hefty amount to drink at The Stone Pony’s bar. He almost got beat up for making fun of some punk (he was a fucking asshole though, so my brother was right in making fun of him, but still). The third time on my own. The last time with my best friend Emma. We had a fun time that night getting called out by photographers about her running on stage and kissing Eric from The Menzingers two nights prior during Nice Things. The photographers also told us that the guy who kissed Eric after Emma did was none other than Dave Hause. We ironically enough met up with him while watching the Dunk A Punk dunk tank. Then he yelled “FUCK IT!” about twenty minutes after talking for a bit and he went outside to go in the dunk tank in 29 degree weather. Nice guy, though.

2. The Gaslight Anthem’s “Handwritten” - Now I didn’t like this record at first due to the slow, emotional sound it had as opposed to their previous records, as well as the shitty Nirvana cover (they covered it fine, but Nirvana was a shitty band to begin with) and Too Much Blood. Anyways, I’ll make a whole post about Gaslight tomorrow because there’s too much to say. I’ll give a whole in-depth story.

1. The Menzingers’ “On The Impossible Past” - Emma kissed Eric during Nice Things at the Asbury Lanes show. That was fucking great. I made a whole post about why I love these guys. It’s probably the last thing I posted on this blog, so go read that.

And with that, I bid you a good night.
